How Spokane is working to prevent truck terror attacks

SPOKANE, Wash. -Eight people were killed and almost a dozen injured when a 29-year-old man in a pickup truck drove down a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center Tuesday in Manhattan, New York City.

While Spokane does not have the same volume of foot-traffic as NYC, police are prepared for truck terror attacks.

How? By using four-wheeled barriers: dump trucks.

For events like Bloomsday and Hoopfest, the police department works with the City to block off streets using dump trucks filled with asphalt.

Why? Because they’re easy to move and are much more effective than wired or concrete barriers.
