Plane crashes in Pend Oreille River

UPDATE: 3:15 p.m.

According to the Sheriff's office, both passengers of the pontoon that crashed into Pend Oreille River are safe and uninjured. Bonner County Marines, Sheriff, Dive Team, and EMS responded with West Pend Oreille Fire to the sinking plane. It is suspected that the pilot was unable to land correctly due to either wind or choppy waves, causing the wing to hit the water first, or one of the floats to come off of the plane. The owners of the pontoon will be removing their own plane from the water.
